Zul’aman Guide

A guide for the timed event is coming. We re trying a lot with my undergeared guild to succeed it and start getting our Amani War Bear.

Hex Lord Malacrass

It’s the 5th boss in Zul’aman. It’s much more difficult than the 4 first bosses. Lower Geared Guilds will usually use 4 healers for this fight.

Abilities

  • Casts Spirit Bolts on the raid. Damage increases with each soul drain.
  • Every minute or so he will drain everyone of their power by 1% and giving it to himself, thus increasing his size and his damage by 10%. Places a stacking debuff on players that decreases their damage.
  • Randomly casts soul drain on a raid member, absorbing the character’s abilities and amplifying their power. The possible soul drains are:
    • Druid - Lifebloom, Thorns, Moonfire
    • Hunter - Explosive Trap, Freezing Trap, Snake Trap
    • Mage - Fireball, Frostbolt, Frost Nova, Ice Lance
    • Paladin - Consecration, Holy Light, Avenging Wrath
    • Priest - Heal, Mind Control, Mind Blast, Shadow Word: Death, Psychic Scream, Pain Suppression
    • Rogue - Blind, Slice and Dice, Wound Poison
    • Shaman - Fire Nova Totem, Healing Wave, Chain Lightning
    • Warlock - Curse of Doom, Rain of Fire, Unstable Affliction
    • Warrior - Spell Reflection, Whirlwind, Mortal Strike

Mobs

  • Thurg - An ogre melee. Sap, trap or polymorph can be used. Thurg has some magic resistance and will often break polymorph and traps early.
  • Alyson Antille - A blood elf priest. Can be polymorphed or sapped. Her heals need to be interrupted.

Left (Hibernatable)

  • Lord Raadan - A dragonkin which uses flamebreath and thunderclap. Can be slept or trapped. Due to his AoE abilities killing him is highly recommended.
  • Slither - A serpent with a poison bolt volley. Can be slept or polymorphed.

Right (Banishable)

  • Gazakroth - An imp. Chain casts fireballs. Banish or kill it quickly. He has no aggro list and will target players at random.
  • Fenstalker - A swampwalker type elemental. Can be banished. Casts Volatile Infection on a player, dealing 1885 to 2115 Nature damage to nearby allies every 5 sec for 30 seconds.

Far Right (Shacklable)

  • Darkheart - An undead wraith melee with an AoE Fear. Can be shackled or feared by a Paladin (Turn Evil).
  • Koragg - An undead wight. Can be shackled or feared by a paladin.

Class Setup

For this fight you’ll need:

Main Tank: preferably a warrior cause it’s soul drain is the easiest one.

Off Tank: A druid will do this job very nice. He can switch to cat form when the 2 adds are killed.

Healers: You’ll need a main healer who will be dedicated to the tank. The rest 2-3 healers should be Circle of Healing Priests and Resto Shamans for AoE Healing during spirit bolts.

DPS: You’ll need 2 dps to spam CC spells on the 2 mobs you’ll leave alive (Mages, Moonkins, Shadow Priest). A rogue is very usefull for the healing interrupts.

Strategy

The Main Tank starts the fight by pulling malacrass. You have to cc 3 of the 4 mobs in the start. The offtank picks the non controlled mob and the raid starts nuking it. Same tactic with the 2nd mob and then the raid focus Malacrass. Ranged DPS classes and Healers should stay close for AoE Healing through spirit bolts. Putting marks on the AoE Healers really helps. The Raid Leader must announce what class has been soul drained to make things easier. Fast dispells, getting away from Concecration/Whirwind/Thorns/Rain of Fire, interrupting heals and spamming CC abilities are the keys for an easy kill.

Tips

Paladin: Improved Concentraction Aura is a plus on this fight. Most PVP paladins will already have it on their spec.

Shaman: Earth Shield on yourself to avoid interrupts through spirit bolts. Earthshocks interrupt Malacrass healings. Use Heroism when Malacrass has soul drained an easy class so it will really boost the total dps.

Priest: Circle of Healing is very useful in this fight. Buff with Shadow Resistance the whole raid.
Mages: You can spellsteal Lifebloom and Avenging Wrath abilities. Dampen Magic helps.

Retribution Paladin Spec for Raids

Since 2.4 patch, it is very common to have a Retribution Paladin in a 25-man raid, especially in the end game ones. His buffs are very useful and his DPS isn’t as low as it used to be.

a) Judgement of Seal of the Crusader. It applys a debuff on the target that increases the critical hit on all attakcs against that target by 3%.
b) Crusader Strike. This ability refreshes all the judgements the target has so Holy Paladins can apply their judgements too.
c) Improved Blessing of Might. 20% more Attack Power by Blessing of Might.
d) Improved Devotion Aura. 40% more Armor from the Devotion Aura. Of course this aura is not very useful as retri paladins will sanctity aura for the Holy Damage Boost.
e) Sanctity Aura. 12% more Holy Damage is a great threat boost for Protection Paladins.

You can’t ignore them!

Patch 2.4.2 and Undocumented Changes

Hunter

  • Scare beast isn’t instant and still have its 1.5sec cast time, even if the tooltip still says “Instant” this is an intended change and the tooltip will be reverted back to 1.5 sec in a later patch.
  • There is still a bug with Growl that is allowing it to scale with some pet attack power buffs as well as the hunter’s attack power. This will be fixed in a future patch, until then enjoy the extra threat from these buffs.

Quests

  • The Quest “The Multiphase Survey”, where you retrieve surveys from Nagrand, no longer gives a Shattered Sun Supplies

Professions

  • If you did a Void Shatter before the patch, you will have to wait for the end of the cooldown before you can do “cooldown-free” transmutations.

Items

  • Medallion of the Alliance and Medallion of the Horde are already available for 40000 honor. The Blue ones will now cost 8000 honor.
  • The proc of Shard of Contempt will now be renamed to Disdain instead of Heroism.
  • Shifting Naaru Sliver will now affect only the caster.
  • Caster weapons were not changed from Main-hand to One-hand intentionally.
  • Nightfall now has a chance to fail for targets above level 60.
  • Wushoolay’s Charm of Nature now grants 70 (instead of 400) spell haste rating, and reduces the mana cost of Rejuvenation, Healing Touch, Regrowth, and Tranquility by -5% for 15 seconds.
  • Hazza’rah’s Charm of Healing now grants 70 (instead of 400) spell haste rating and reduces the mana cost of your healing spells by -5% for 15 seconds.
  • Renataki’s Charm of Trickery energy bonus is now reduced by 4 points by level after level 60, lowering the energy bonus to 20 at level 70 instead of 40.

Possible Bugs

  • Fire will now spawn -much- closer to Archimonde, and the pathing is entirely random.
  • Fire can target and chase Melee. Never possible pre 2.4.2.
  • Archimonde’s hit box size has been increased
  • MT’s are now able to be targetted by Air Burst.

Death knights in WotLK

  • Death KnightAll players with a level 55 character will be able to create one Death Knight per realm, per account.
  • Blizzard’s designers decided to start the class with a full complement of abilities right off the bat, figuring that any player that has advanced a character to level 55 would be able to learn to handle the new class with minimal difficulty.
  • Death Knights will have a summonable Skeletal Deatcharger Mount.
  • Death Knights aren’t using Mana or Energy, the runes are their primary source of power and are slotted into their “blade,” which lies underneath their health bar as a visual indicator of what resources are available to the player at any given moment.
  • Spent runes automatically refresh after a set period of time, much like a Rogue’s energy bar.
  • There are six slots in the blade, and the player is free to fill those slots with any given number of Blood, Unholy or Frost runes.
  • Death Knights also have a secondary resource called Runic Power generated by using your rune abilities. It will use the same mechanics as rage and increase when you deal damage, or slowly decrease if you’re not using it.
  • Death Knights will have a lot of abilities that cost all available Runic Power with varying levels of effectiveness based on total Runic Power spent. (Same mechanics as Execute for warriors, or finishing moves for Rogues)
  • Death Knights will have spells equivalent to auras called “Presence”, providing them with powerful self-buffs depending on their role in the group. (One for tanking, one for damage dealing, etc …)
  • An instant lifedrain spell (described as death coil without the fear component) will be available.
  • Death Knights will be the first class to use diseases as a source of damage, with abilities that become strong depending on how many diseases are already applied to the target.
  • “Army of the Dead” will spawn numerous undead minions to attack nearby hostiles targets.
  • Death Knights will also revive an enemy (or ally) as a ghoul to use it as a pet with its own special abilities like a disease-inflicting strike and a stun.
  • When an ally is risen as a ghoul, a pop-up will appear and this ally will have the choice to control the ghoul if he wants to.
  • The Death Knight’s particular niche will be in tanking magic-damage-dealing bosses. They will have an ability much like a banshee’s anti-magic shell, greatly diminishing the amount of incoming magic damage they’ll receive in combat

Death Knight Skills

  • Death Coil — Depletes all Runic Power, dealing 600 damage to a non-Undead target, or healing 900 damage on a friendly target.
  • Death Grip — This is the Death Knight’s “taunt” ability. It also pulls the target to the Death Knight, forcing them to attack the Death Knight for a short amount of time. Yes, I said pulls the target; Blizzard is going to allow players to move mobs in the expansion both with Death Grip, and other knockback/pull abilities. This works on players too, so PvP balance ahoy!
  • Chains of Ice - Roots the target in place. When the spell fades, it places a snare on the target that reduces in potency as the duration runs out.
  • Death Pact - Sacrifices the raised ghouls to heal the Death Knight.
  • Death and Decay - Targeted, AoE Damage-over-time which pulses similar to the Paladin spell Consecration. Anyone affected by Death and Decay has a chance to be feared.
  • Frost Presence - Increases Armor by 45% and allows the Death Knight to generate 25% more threat. Only one presence can be active at any time.
  • Unholy Presence - Increases Attack Speed and Movement speed by 15%. Only one presence can be active at any time. This was described by Tom Chilton as the “PvP” presence.
  • Anti-magic Shield - Reduces the damage of the next magical spell cast on the Death Knight by 75%. It also converts the damage reduced into Runic Power.
  • Strangulate - Depletes all Runic Power, dealing minor damage and silencing the target for up to 5 seconds.
  • Summon Deathcharger - Allows the Death Knight to summon a Deathcharger mount. This mount is acquired through quests, similar to the Paladin and Warlock land mounts.
  • Raise Dead - Raises a nearby corpse to fight for the Death Knight for 2 minutes. If used on a player corpse, the player has the option to play as the ghoul for the duration — gaining access to the ghoul’s abilities.
The ghoul has the ability to do the following:

    • Leap to the target
    • Rend for decent damage-over-time
    • Stun target, and of course more

Thanks Gamespy and Curse for all these information.

Win Trading Blue Post

In our continued efforts to support fair gameplay in World of Warcraft and to provide a positive experience for players, we have taken steps to ensure fair and enjoyable competition in the Arena by actioning players who have exploited the Arena system to gain artificial victories to purchase Arena gear. Our support team identified several hundred of the most abusive win traders, and action was taken against those accounts in the form of a 72-hour suspension, as well as removal of all Arena gear purchased in the current season.

We want to emphasize that this action was not taken lightly, and was only done to address the severity of the problem. Win trading goes against the spirit of World of Warcraft and hurts enjoyment of the game for all players who earn their victories by competing in a fair environment.

Blizzard Entertainment has always taken a very firm stance against win trading, and additional in-game updates will be made to limit this abuse in an upcoming patch. Additionally, we will continue to closely monitor the Arena system for any signs of win trading or other abuse.

If you were among the players actioned for win trading, but feel it was done in error, please contact our account administration team at WoWAccountAdmin@blizzard.com.

Thank you for your support and best of luck to you in all of your games in the Arena.

Haste Gems for Paladins in Sunwell

There was a very nice discussion at SK-Gaming.com about the gemming of Holy Paladins when raiding Sunwell Plateau. For those who don’t know, SK Gaming guild is the number 1 PVE Guild at the moment (they killed M’uru first 1st in the world). As Winternight reports according to his Healing Meters SK Gaming paladins are able to heal with 2500-2800 HPS (Healing Per Second) in contrary with Paladins with Healing/mp5/Spell crit gems staying at 2000-2200 HPS. The Fight requires mostly Holy Lights at 9-11 Rank.

Of course the first thing you must ensure is a working Meta-Gem. So a couple of 11 healing/2mp5 in belt and wrist for the Insightful Earthstorm Diamond to work would be ok. The rest should go for Spell Haste Gems.

Start Saving Badge of Justice to buy your Lionseyes when the Gem Vendor is available. We still missing 45% on my server.

Blizzard takes action against Win Traders

Finally Blizzard employees dicided to take action against those players who exploited the arena system. A lot of players reported that they were getting banned or suspended for 72 hours during this weekend, cause they either did win trading or sold arena points. Threads in official forums and Arena Junkies with over 25 pages in less than 2 days show the size of the problem. Bellow you’ll find a mail, Sinither of Stormscale got for his 72 hour suspension:

Regards,
Hello XXXXXXXXXXX,

I wanted to give a quick follow up on the situation. It seems as if the actions made on your account were in error. We do apologize for this situation, as our intention is to clean up the rampant win trading going on, we did encounter a few mistakes along the way. Unfortunately your team was filtered through association, and was tracked and actioned due to an error in judgment. I apologize for that.

The items removed from your character have been restored and should be in your mailbox. Your points should also be returned as well.

However, Blizzard still stands firmly against disturbing the essence of World of Warcraft. Your account will not be reopened under any circumstances.

Furthermore, any activities not intended by game design which affect the economy, the client, player characters or the world itself have a tremendous negative impact on the potential enjoyment for all players. The effects of these activities take many forms including a bloated game economy, server instability, and allowing unauthorized access to accounts, computers, and player data. Any disputes or questions concerning this account action can only be addressed by Account Administration. To learn more about how Account Administration is able to assist you, please visit us at http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=21505
